How To Apply For A Loan

  1. We make loans to residents of the Town of Nassau, the Village of Nassau and the Village of East Nassau as defined by the official Tax Map of the Town of Nassau, New York, as well as to other residents of zip code 12123. Before applying for a loan, please make sure you live within these boundaries. If you are not sure, please contact the Nassau Town Clerk.
  2. Payment is made directly to vendors for services or supplies. We never issue funds directly to a loan applicant.
  3. All applications are confidential.
  4. To apply for a loan, please call the Nassau Sunshine Fund at 518-256-6878, email us through our website or complete this form and email us directly at nassausunshinefund@gmail.com.
  5. A member of the Disbursement Committee will respond to your request. Once it is determined that you live within the Town of Nassau or its villages, you will be asked about your financial emergency, including the amount of the loan you are seeking. We have a limit of $500 per loan applicant.
  6. If we believe that a social service agency or a charity might be able to provide the assistance you need at no cost to you, then we will direct you to that agency.
  7. If the committee member determines that the loan is one the Sunshine Fund might make, the member will set up an appointment for two members of the Disbursement Committee to meet with you in person.
  8. Please bring to this appointment your personal identification, proof of residency, and written estimates, bills or invoices relating to the loan for which you are applying.
  9. The decision to fund a loan is usually made at the meeting with the applicant. If there is a question about the appropriateness of the request, the Disbursement Committee members would consult with the board.
  10. While we make zero-interest loans, and you agree to repay the loan at terms that work for you, we expect and count on full repayment. Money we get from loan repayments is used to make new loans to other Nassau neighbors. That’s how we can continue providing neighbor-to-neighbor help.
